Our Story
Everyone wants a place to belong. That idea has been part of Cohesive Coffee from the beginning.
Cohesive opened at Airport Junction in August 2019 with a simple focus: create a coffee shop centered on community. A place where people could meet, work, celebrate, slow down, and feel genuinely welcome.
Seven years later, that mission still guides us.
We care deeply about what we serve, but Cohesive has always been about more than coffee. Our team brings the shop to life through deep product knowledge, thoughtful service, and a shared pursuit of unreasonable hospitality. Whether you know exactly what you want or need help finding a new favorite, there is a place for you here.
Over the years, Cohesive has hosted first meetings, workdays, wedding receptions, church gatherings, playdates, and countless everyday conversations. The Gathering Place has made our café its consistent church home, and our location near the Greenville Downtown Airport and Swamp Rabbit Trail continues to introduce new people to the community that has grown here.
A New Chapter, With the Same Heart
On December 28, 2025, Cohesive entered a new chapter when employee Kevin Williams purchased the shop from founder Josh Williams.
After operating Cohesive continuously for more than six years, Josh was able to step away and spend more time with his children. The ownership transition was rooted in a commitment to carry forward the mission he started and preserve what made Cohesive special—especially its team.
Since then, we have continued investing in our people through expanded training, coffee cuppings, and hands-on learning opportunities with our suppliers. We have also grown our local presence through catering, community events, and a second Greenville location inside Southern First.
The shop is growing, but the heart of Cohesive remains the same: great coffee, a welcoming team, and a place where people can belong.
Our Timeline
August 2019 — Cohesive Coffee Opens
Josh Williams opens Cohesive Coffee at Airport Junction with a vision for a café built around coffee, kindness, and community.
2020 — Still Standing
Like so many small businesses, Cohesive faces the uncertainty of COVID. With the support of its team and community, the shop survives and keeps moving forward.
June 16, 2023 — A New Connection
The Swamp Rabbit Trail crosswalk at Airport Junction is completed, creating a literal connection between Cohesive and one of Greenville’s most important community spaces. Since then, the trail has helped countless walkers, runners, and cyclists discover the shop.
September 2025 — A Local Coffee Partnership
Cohesive begins serving coffee from Leopard Forest Coffee Company in Travelers Rest, strengthening our commitment to local relationships and creating new training opportunities for our team.
December 28, 2025 — Employee Ownership Begins
A Cohesive employee purchases the business from Josh, beginning a new chapter centered on preserving the shop’s community, team, and original mission.
That same month, Southern First becomes Cohesive’s banking partner—a relationship that would soon grow into something much bigger.
Summer 2026 — Cohesive Catering Launches
Cohesive expands beyond the café with coffee and pastry catering for meetings, workplaces, gatherings, and local events.
August 2026 — Our Second Location
Cohesive Coffee at Southern First opens to the public in Greenville’s Verdae business district. The new location brings the same team, hospitality, and approach to coffee to a new part of Greenville.
August 24–30, 2026 — Seven Years of Cohesive
We’re celebrating our seventh birthday all week long with the launch of our first birthday T-shirts, a special birthday drink, and more to be announced.
Seven years, two locations, one incredible team, and a community that has carried us through every chapter.
